Does anybody have the nexus one?

Nexus One: The Big Picture

The phone looks more like the iPhone than any other phone on the market. There is no physical keyboard like the Android-powered Motorola Droid, and the tradeoff is a much slimmer design. The phone is 11.5 mm deep, slightly thinner than the iPhone 3GS at 12.3 mm. It is also slightly lighter than the iPhone 130 grams v. 135 grams). The package comes with the phone, a removable battery, 4 GB Micro SD storage card (expandable to 32 GB), USB charger and microphone headset.

The Nexus one has four functional touch buttons at the bottom of the screen (back, menu, home, search) and a navigation trackball pointing device. It also has physical power and volume controls. But most of your interaction with the phone will be through the gorgeous 3.7 inch 480 x 800 OLED capacitive touchscreen. This is the best mobile phone display on the market today, blowing away the iPhone’s 480 x 320 display. The screen is bright and alive, and an absolute pleasure to use.

This phone is also powered by the Snapdragon 1 GHz core processor, which is more than able to handle the Nexus One’s 3D graphics, multiple applications running in the background and heavy browser use simultaneously. Unlike previous Android phones, there is no slowdown or lag when you push the phone’s performance, and less of a need to kill applications to keep the device humming.

On the downside: all this hardware  is an energy hog.  But! You can easily view what’s using the battery, though (the screen is 71% of my current usage), and then adjust the hardware or software usage to maximize battery life.

Overall the Android is a superior mobile device, particularly when paired with Google Voice. Google is calling this the first of the Super Phones. And they may not be exaggerating all that much.

“This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done” – Steve Jobs, referring to the soon-to-be-launched Apple Tablet.

"We haven’t heard this first hand, but we’ve heard it multiple times second and third hand from completely independent sources. Senior Apple execs and friends of Jobs are telling people that he’s about as excited about the upcoming Apple Tablet as he’s ever been. Coming from the man who has created so much, that’s saying something.

In other words the iphone was nothing but a warm up!

Gartner forecasts phones overtaking PCs as most common web browsing device by 2013

By Natalia V

Predictions about phones overtaking PCs at one task or another are hardly anything new, but research firm Gartner has gotten a bit more specific than most with its latest forecast -- which, among other things, foretells of a day when cellphones will be the most common device used for browsing the web. That momentous event will supposedly happen by 2013, when Gartner expects the number of browser-equipped phones to exceed 1.83 billion, compared to 1.78 billion old fashioned computers in use. According to Gartner, however, while browser-equipped phones will outnumber PCs by then, they won't actually be most folks' primary browsing device until sometime in 2015. In other prognostication news, the firm also says that fully three billion of the world's population will be able to make electronic transactions via mobile or internet technology by 2014, and that by as soon as 2012, 20% of businesses will "own no IT assets" -- meaning that employees would be using their own personal computer, and that the businesses themselves would be relying on cloud-based services.

Skiff Reader is largest yet, will be hitting a Sprint Store near you

By Tim Stevens of Engadget

"Amazon's Kindle DX may be big, but it's not the biggest any more. The Skiff Reader is here to take that crown -- despite being a mere quarter inch thick. It packs a 1600 x 1200 11.5-inch touchscreen (finger and stylus) that, as you can see from the above screenshot, should do much better justice to magazine and newspaper layouts than we've yet seen from an e-ink-based reader. That's exactly the sort of advance Hearst was promising when it first mentioned the device last month. Skiff includes 4GB of on-board storage (just over 3GB is available for content) with SD card expansion, and there's a 3.5mm headphone jack for tunes and, hopefully, text-to-speech. Content can be side-loaded over a mini USB jack or delivered via WiFi but, more importantly, 3G is also on offer thanks to Sprint, who will also dedicate some space in its retail stores to sell the thing when it launches sometime this year. Price? That we don't know."

Step your mobile phone game up! First Stop the Vertu Shop..

By Natalia V

Vertu, the luxury cell phone brand created by Nokia, has opened its first store in Japan to sell hand-crafted cell phones to wealthy consumers despite the recession currently gripping the country.

The company's first store opened its doors on Thursday to customers in Tokyo's ritzy Ginza district with handsets selling at prices up to ¥6 million (US$64,400). Vertu is also establishing itself as a cellular carrier here, working on the MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) model across NTT DoCoMo's network, so it can provide tailored service to customers.

But the service comes at a price. Monthly subscriptions to the Vertu MVNO cost ¥52,500, according to local media. That's 15 times the cheapest basic monthly tariff offered by NTT DoCoMo.

Vertu is betting that its target audience -- wealthy consumers -- won't be put off by the price but rather attracted by the handsets, which are hand-assembled in the U.K., and virtual concierge, an on-call service that can help with advice on travel, entertainment, restaurants and events.

NICE!

The Vertu store in NewYork Plaza is official. Barneys has also been known to carry a nice selection of vertu's as well.

SideNote:  The Weight of the phone says it all. You can't fake a vertu so don't even try. Let's keep it 100. Budget and invest.. leave the poser sh*t to the rest.
*The End*
